Giovanna is a lifelong resident of Lorain County, having grown up in Avon. She is the daughter of Joe and Leslie Scaletta. Leslie proudly taught elementary school in Avon, and Joe was a home builder and developer in Avon and North Ridgeville. After completing law school, Giovanna married her high school sweetheart, Myles Bremke and they moved to a farm in rural Lorain County where they raise their three sons.

 

Giovanna is dedicated to the practice of law in Lorain County. Giovanna currently serves as a part-time magistrate in the Elyria Municipal Court. She is a practicing attorney in her own firm in Avon where she has handled criminal and civil litigation for over ten years. Giovanna has argued multiple cases to the Ohio Supreme Court. Giovanna has been qualified to testify as a legal expert by Lorain County Probate Judge James Walther. She is qualified by the Ohio Supreme Court to represent individuals facing the death penalty. Giovanna was appointed by Lorain County Common Pleas Judge D. Christopher Cook as a board member of the Lorain/Medina Community Based Correctional Facility (CBCF). Additionally, she was a founding member of the Lorain Municipal Court’s bond review committee.

 

Giovanna is proud to have served on the executive board of the Lorain County Bar Association (LCBA) since 2016 and now as the president. She also serves on the Ethics & Grievance Committee, the Bar Admissions Committee, formerly served as the chair of the Young Lawyers Committee and is a frequent presenter at continuing education courses for fellow attorneys and a contributor to the Legal Times, a LCBA publication.

 

Giovanna has served as a compassionate advocate helping those suffering from addiction and mental illness throughout her career. Since 2018, she has been the criminal defense attorney for the Lorain County Recovery Court, a specialized docket for those suffering from addiction and mental illness. She has also served as an attorney for the Lorain County Probate Court New Journey Court representing individuals in the county with severe mental illness. Giovanna has formerly served as a board member of Let’s Get Real, an organization based in Lorain that provides peer mentoring services for those suffering from addiction and mental illness with the goal of providing treatment. Giovanna was an active member of the Stepping Up Initiative, a county-wide effort focused at diverting individuals with serious mental illness out of correctional facilities and into treatment.

 

Giovanna is the former government committee chair of the Northcoast Building Industry Association. Giovanna serves as a caregiver mentor through the Fourth Angel Mentoring Program for caregivers with loved ones battling cancer. Giovanna is a Lorain County Farm Bureau member, a Lorain County Township Association member, and a supporter of the Lorain County 4-H and FFA programs. She is on the Board of the Lorain County Livestock Youth Reserve. She is also an active member of the Firelands Elementary School PTG and a school volunteer.
